Midlothian Wheelchair Accessible Housing Targets 2027/28-31/32

Overview

Midlothian Council is currently working to set the target for the number of wheelchair accessible homes to be built between 2027/28 and 2031/32.

The targets will be for homes in social housing and privately built developments.

Midlothian Council can choose:

  • To have a single target, setting out the requirement for housing across all tenures (e.g. have the same target for social housing and private developers)
  • Or can distinguish requirements by tenure (e.g. different targets for social housing and private housing)
  • And / or sub area (e.g. separate targets for Midlothian West and Midlothian East).

Furthermore:

  • The target(s) can be expressed as a number to be delivered over a period of time
  • Or as a % requirement of either the existing housing or as a % of all new housing provision.

The current wheelchair accessible targets were set in 2022 and require 20 homes to be built per year - 10 in the private sector and 10 in the social housing sector. The results of this survey will update these targets.

Why your views matter

Midlothian residents of all ages and living in all types of housing are invited to take part.

The survey results will help Midlothian Council understand more about the need for wheelchair accessible housing now and in the future. The results will directly inform future housing plans.
