Investing in Dalkeith's future

Closed 18 Apr 2025

Opened 27 Mar 2025

Overview

Midlothian Council is taking action on its estate.

Midlothian House needs repairs. This is an opportunity to rationalise our buildings in Dalkeith to make our estate more affordable as we invest in the buildings we want to keep and find new uses for those no longer needed or in poor condition.

It also gives us the chance to move Dalkeith Library and Arts Centre into the ground floor of Midlothian House and create a new customer-service hub.

We wanted your views on the proposals you saw at either a drop in we held at Dalkeith Library or on social media. We welcomed your answers to the questions and any other comments you would like to make.

We also included artist's impressions of what the ground floor could look like  below.

Why your views matter

The response to this consultation will help shape the final proposals and we will consider all comments made. When an application for planning permission is submitted it will be accompanied by a Design and Access Statement.  This document will include a public consultation section summarising the feedback received and how this has influenced the final proposals.

The survey closed on Friday 18 April 2025.

Comments should not be made to Midlothian Council in its capacity as Planning Authority. Any comments made to the prospective application are not comments to the Midlothian Council in its capacity as Planning Authority. If a planning application is submitted to Midlothian Council in its capacity as Planning Authority, normal neighbour notification and publicity will be undertaken at that time and you will have the opportunity to make formal representations regarding the proposal.
