What is unpaid work?

In Scotland, Community Payback Orders (CPOs) often include an unpaid work requirement, also known as community payback, where individuals serve their sentence by completing unpaid work in the community. This involves undertaking a set number of hours, typically ranging from 20 to 300, on various projects that benefit local areas. The work aims to provide a tangible benefit to the community and may also focus on developing the individual's skills to reduce reoffending.
