This survey allowed us to gather feedback from the Tourism Industry in Midlothian on proposed strategic objectives for the Midlothian Tourism Strategy.

The results have directly informed the forthcoming Midlothian Tourism Strategy for Inclusive Economic Growth 2025–2030 expected to be published by December 2025.

Overview

Thank you for taking part in this business consultation on the Midlothian Tourism Strategy 2025–2030. 

This strategy is being developed using: 

  • feedback from 254 participants in the 2025 Midlothian Visitor Survey 

  • analysis of STEAM (Scarborough Tourism Economic Activity Monitor) data for Midlothian 

 The strategy Aligns with key local, regional, and national strategies, including: 

  • The Midlothian Strategy for Inclusive Economic Growth 2025–2030 

  • Scotland Outlook 2030 

  • The City Region Deal Regional Prosperity Framework 

  • The National Planning Framework 4 

  • VisitScotland Responsible Tourism Framework 

  • Scotland’s Food Tourism Action Plan 

  • The Scottish National Transport Strategy 

  • and other local, regional and national strategies 

The strategy sets out five strategic objectives to guide the sustainable and inclusive development of Midlothian’s visitor economy.

We want to ensure these objectives reflect the needs and aspirations of Midlothian’s tourism, culture, and heritage businesses, as well as stakeholders, and the local community.
