Rosewell-Auchendinny path lighting

Closed 19 Sep 2025

Opened 28 Aug 2025

Overview

We recently improved the surface of the shared-use path between Rosewell and Auchendinny.

We were now asking for your views on adding lighting to help people use it more safely in the early mornings, evenings, and during the darker winter months.

We know this area is home to wildlife, so we planned to use lights that are gentle on animals like bats and do not spoil the night sky. These lights would be dim and warm in colour, so they fit in with the countryside and protect nature.

The consultation is now closed. Many thanks to the 427 people who responded. A total of 68.15% of respondents were in favour of no lighting, with 11.24% of respondents wanted the lights on from dusk to dawn and 14.75% of respondents told us they would like the lights on from dusk until midnight and then from 5am until dawn. A further 5.85% did not answer the question. The path will, therefore, not be lit.

Why your views matter

We wanted to make sure the path works well for people, animals, and the environment.

What happens next

What you told us informed our final decision  not to light the path.
